The Ultimate Touchstone for Every Journey

Each moment is a step

Hi! Welcome to the 4 CreativeWheels newsletter — your weekly dose of insights on creativity and fuel for your creative journey.

We did it! We have made it to week 10. A 10-week streak of consistent new learnings, reflection, and exploration. I’m so glad and thankful for all of you.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can’t wait to see what’s ahead of us.

To celebrate this, in this week’s issue, we’ll talk about what is the foundation for growth and satisfaction in all endeavors in life especially in creativity. It’ll be short & sweet.

Without further ado…

Let’s start the ride!

Main Wheel

It's an amazing feeling to know that you're on an adventure. It's a wonderful feeling to realize that you love the adventure. And it's a daunting feeling to be uncertain of the outcomes of each step you take.

This is the case for everything in life. I would argue it's the case for life itself. We all know we are in it. But we don't know what this or that will lead us to.

At least we have the infamous and immobile post called Death.

I know I know, that's a melancholic way to start. But bear with me.

Life's uncertainty plays a big role in our world. And one sector I find that it impacts most is creativity. Being a creative is pretty reckless.

You could try to be safer. You pick the less artistic and more corporate roles. The ones where you fulfill your desire to create, be creative, and earn some good cash by filling a need in the market. However, you still remain in that reckless zone.

No wonder society is so against encouraging kids to be creatives in their adult life. The good news is, there are people like you, me, and many others, who choose to keep being a creative. And some of them are even creative at that.

That choice is brave. It's forging the uncovered and unconventional path. In this path, the journey is known as the destination. But again, just like all the paths, there are dark times.

In life, from the moment we are born, we show up to life. Every day we are here until we truly can't be here. There is no stopping to showing up.

It's only death that stops us. Days you despise or days you adore, all of them, regardless of your perception are parts of your life. They are all instances of you being there.

It's the same case for creativity. We all show up on the path whether we like it or not. Unless we are truly unable to create, we all show up to our creative journey in a way. Even not choosing to create is showing up.

Just like in life, you can be here yet not here. You can be alive, but not living.

You could have the ideas, the materials, and the skills. You could have the will. Heck, you could only have your hands and breathing lungs. However, you only have one decision to take. To create or not create.

Each step in this journey is formed by that one decision. It's where the development abides. And it's always in the present.

Everything necessary is present. Still, we sometimes do not use them properly.

The outcomes of our steps don't matter. We have no control over them. Moreover, they don't determine whether our path was traveled as an adventure. They are perks and nice-to-haves.

Yet, when the immobile post blocks our trip, we only remember how we showed up on the journey.

Fortunately, an immobile post in creativity and being a creative is not death. Though it can be death, it's mostly the instances when we can't create. We don't have any ways, energy, time, or strength to make it.

Those are rare life events. So, when we do have the ability to show up, what do we do in that present moment?

We can choose that a particular fear overcomes us or decide to run through it. We can choose to mind the outside or forget it. And we can choose to find meaning and purpose for creating based on the perks or the steps.

The choice is always ours.

So, how do I choose to show up? How do you choose to show up? For, there lies the difference.

There lies the ultimate touchstone of every journey.
